Labour ComplianceThe Andaman and Nicobar Administration, on May 07, 2026, issued the Draft Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (A & N Islands) Rules, 2026

The following has been stated:-

•The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has pre-published the draft Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (A & N Islands) Rules, 2026 under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, inviting public objections and suggestions within 45 days from June 02, 2026. 

•The draft rules establish a comprehensive framework for registration of establishments, worker health and safety, appointment letters, accident and disease reporting, safety committees, safety officers, working hours, overtime wages, inspections, and record maintenance. 

•They also introduce digital registration, licensing, returns, and compliance mechanisms, along with risk-based factory inspections, self-certification, and third-party certification systems. 

•Special provisions have been prescribed for women workers, contract labour, inter-state migrant workers, and industrial premises, including welfare, safety, and licensing requirements. 

•The rules strengthen employer obligations regarding workplace safety, medical examinations, social security compliance, and accident prevention. 

•Overall, the draft aims to modernize labour administration, improve occupational safety standards, and promote transparent and technology-driven compliance across the Union Territory.
